Transmediale.10 DAY 2 - Price and value of digital Work
Free Culture Incubator What is the currency for the cultural enterprise of the future? Cultural production basically happens through the support of numerous micro-economies which apply different currency systems such as bartering or contact brokering. On this basis cultural values develop which at best are beneficial to our entire society. But what flows back to the cultural producers? Transmediale.10 DAY 3 - Creativity as an economic resource
Due to the economic crisis the creative industries have become a location factor praised by politicians as a growth market soon to outperform the car industry. The balance between artists and economic representatives is changing. It seems that the norm of the economy supporting the growth of culture is due to be reversed. We ask: in which way has this new framework changed the relation between art and capital? Can there be a balanced exchange between culture and economy? What are the preconditions for a cooperation at eye level? House of World Cultures Salon / K1 (admission Salon Talks: 5 EUR / 3EUR)

Transmediale.10 DAY 3 - Agit-Prop, Punks and Poets: Digital Media between Film, Video and Activism in the Arab World
Much has been said about the democratising impact of digital media, yet perhaps not a lot with regards to the Arab world. n this region videos are emerging in a landscape saturated with fabricated images, and in which the means of fabrication and dissemination seem to be the exclusive monopoly either of those in control of the public sphere or those in control of the market. The selection of works in this programme attempts to illustrate the various ways in which digital media are used to subvert genres and challenge dominant media emissions in situations of political crises or violence. Streaming videos on the net is yet another story. The online platform Arabshorts.net is a pioneering experiment on many levels and will be presented and discussed as part of this programme. The Futurity Long Conversation, a relay of one-to-one conversations, brings 22 leading artists, designers, theorists, journalists and media interventionists together to discuss, contextualise and explore the abstract and qualitative elements defining what we conceive of the future today. The format of the Futurity Long Conversation was developed in conjunction with the UK arts organisation Artangel and the Longplayer Trust, and inspired by the work of The Long Now Foundation, international organisations crafting ways with which to perceive time and durational process in radically different and perhaps media technologically appropriate ways. In their approach, we are in a period which redefines the "
